Taunton & Pickeridge Juniors Triumph in Historic Inter-League Match
Taunton & Pickeridge's junior team claimed a memorable victory in a closely contested match against Bristol & Clifton Juniors at Saltford Golf Club, securing a 3-2 win in an event that celebrated the return of a prestigious trophy not played for since 2018.
The occasion attracted strong support from across junior golf, including Stewart, President of the Somerset Junior Golf League, who attended to represent the league and support the players. The match featured five highly competitive encounters, with the overall result remaining in the balance until the final game.
The decisive moment came in the concluding match between Jacob Goss (Taunton & Pickeridge) and Ben of Bristol & Clifton. Holding a dormy advantage on the 17th, Jacob saw the match taken to the final hole after Ben won the penultimate hole with the benefit of a shot. Under intense pressure on the 18th tee, Jacob produced the crucial shot, finding the front of the green before calmly two-putting for par to secure both the hole and the match victory for his team.
Following the golf, players and supporters enjoyed a meal and presentation delivered by Bob Perkins, adding a fitting conclusion to a memorable day for junior golf.
Thanks were extended to David and Saltford Golf Club for hosting the event, along with Rachel Powell, the Bristol Junior Golf League and the Somerset Junior Golf League for their support in making the fixture possible. Congratulations were also offered to all the juniors who participated, together with their organisers and parents whose continued encouragement helps junior golf thrive.
